Your next kitchissippi councillor

Our fair share.

My name is Subhir Uppal and I'm running to bring fresh ideas, accountability and transparency to City Hall.

For over 15 years, I have lived, worked, and built my business in this ward. From the Civic Hospital area to Hintonburg and now Westboro, this community has always been home. Today, it’s where my wife, Stephanie, and I are raising our five-year-old son, Brahm.

I was born to immigrant parents who chose Ottawa in search of a better life. They instilled in me the values of hard work, honesty, and giving back. Those values weren’t abstract—they were lived. I spent countless hours behind the counter of my parents’ corner stores, learning what it means to serve your neighbours and earn trust, one conversation at a time.

Giving back has always mattered to me. I have served two terms on the Board of Directors of the Vanier Business Improvement Area and volunteer as a youth mentor with Junior Achievement Canada. I contribute to community safety initiatives through leading the Neighbourhood Watch program and serving as a director with the Ottawa Safety Council.

I am a small business owner and community builder, recognized as Entrepreneur of the Year in 2024. I also serve as an ethics instructor with the nationally recognized Real Estate Institute of Canada, as a director with the Ottawa Real Estate Board, and as vice chair with the Real Estate Council of Ontario, reflecting my commitment to integrity in both business and public service.

I hold a Bachelor of Commerce and an Executive MBA from the University of Ottawa. Ottawa gave my family opportunity—and I believe in paying it forward by listening, working hard, and putting community first.

My Values

  • Hard work

I believe in rolling up my sleeves and getting to work. I thrive on hard work, fighting for my community, and getting the job done.

  • Community

My community means everything to me. Years ago, my home was damaged by a fire, and my community rallied behind me. Today, whenever there is a call for help, I am always ready to show up and support others in any way I can.

  • Transparency

I pride myself on being an open book—no secrets, no hidden agendas. I believe our elected officials should uphold this same standard. Transparency will be a cornerstone of my campaign for councillor.

  • Ethics

I hold myself to a high ethical standard. I am an ethics instructor with the Real Estate Institute of Canada and am often invited to speak on ethics panels. I also serve as a board member for various organizations, a reflection of my commitment to integrity and ethical conduct.

“Every resident of Kitchissippi deserves to be heard. I’m committed to being your voice at City Hall and standing up for what matters most to our community.”
