Parking policies should work for everyone. Based on feedback from a community parking roundtable I hosted, I will work to identify practical improvements such as free weekend parking, short-term grace periods, clearer and more consistent parking rules, resident and employee parking options, and better transparency around how parking revenues are spent. I will also advocate for solutions that reduce pressure on residential side streets and address safety concerns caused by spillover parking.

A responsive and accessible local office starts with communication. If elected, Subhir is committed to being regularly available to residents through town halls, newsletters, community meetings, and informal coffee chats to ensure every voice is heard. Residents will receive a detailed community newsletter with updates on local events, city developments, infrastructure projects, and important ward news. A modern website with AI-assisted support will help residents quickly get answers to common questions and service requests, reducing delays and improving access to information. More complex issues will be automatically directed to staff for personal follow-up. Dedicated staff will also be available to respond promptly to emails, phone calls, and resident concerns to ensure strong, reliable service for the community.

Safe communities start with strong local connections. I support a community-focused approach to safety, including a Beat Cop / Community Officer model, Neighbourhood Watch initiatives as I've championed in my community, and regular town halls. I will work with residents and community partners to address small crime, discarded drug paraphernalia, and other issues affecting the safety and enjoyment of our parks and public spaces.

Community Safety

Kitchissippi urgently needs a new state-of-the-art wellness and recreation facility to meet the needs of our growing community. While existing centres like Dovercourt Recreation Centre do incredible work, demand for programs and services continues to exceed capacity, with many activities filling up quickly and residents being left on waitlists.With major redevelopment projects planned around Tunney's Pasture and Bayview Yards, we have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to secure space for a modern wellness hub that will serve families, seniors, youth, and residents for decades to come. This campaign believes Kitchissippi deserves its fair share of investment by reinvesting revenue generated within our ward back into our own community priorities. Recreation facilities are being planned across Ottawa — it’s time Kitchissippi receives the infrastructure our residents need and deserve. More details to come.

We don’t have to choose between drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians. Whether you walk, bike, drive, or take transit, our streets should work well for everyone. I support sensible road designs that recognize the diverse transportation needs of our community and help people move around Kitchissippi efficiently.

An Innovation Ward

Turning 40 has me reflecting on the community that has shaped so much of my life: Kitchissippi.For the past 15 years, this ward has been home. It’s where my wife and I are raising our family, where I’ve built friendships and community connections, and where I’ve had the privilege of giving back through local volunteer work and neighbourhood initiatives.Kitchissippi is special because of its people. It’s the neighbours who look out for one another, the small businesses that give our streets character, the parks and public spaces that bring families together, and the strong sense of community you feel across our neighbourhoods.As I celebrate this milestone birthday, I wanted to share 40 things I love about Kitchissippi: the places, traditions, and everyday moments that make this community such an incredible place to call home.<ol><li>The incredible parks and green spaces woven throughout our neighbourhoods.</li><li>Dovercourt Recreation Association for the amazing programs, camps, and swimming lessons our son looks forward to every week.</li><li>Our endless bike and running routes that make active living part of everyday life (like biking with my son to school on the Byron Linear Path).</li><li>Summer afternoons at splash pads and pools like Iona Park, Fisher Park, and Hintonburg Park.</li><li>Community outdoor skating rinks that make winter feel uniquely Canadian.</li><li>Hampton Park, one of the city’s hidden gems, especially during the guided nature walks with Friends of Hampton Park.</li><li>Saturdays at Parkdale Public Market or Westboro Farmers’ Market.</li><li>A great cup of coffee from Equator Coffee, still my favourite in the city.</li><li>Grabbing donuts from Happy Goat Coffee Co. and SuzyQ Doughnuts.</li><li>The chocolate chip cookies at Wellington Butchery that somehow disappear before we get home.</li><li>The potato bacon salad from Hintonburg Market, which should honestly have its own fan club.</li><li>Finding a great pair of sneakers at Barcon Getta.&nbsp;</li><li>The massive shawarma plates from Shawarma Al Mouna that always guarantee leftovers.</li><li>The chicken burger at Gburger, one of the best comfort meals around.</li><li>Watching kids, including my son, build confidence and skills at the Ottawa Gymnastics Centre.</li><li>Ice cream runs to The Merry Dairy on warm summer nights.</li><li>Catching up with friends over pints at local breweries like Beyond the Pale Brewing Company and Tooth and Nail Brewing Company.</li><li>Shopping local for unique gifts and Ottawa-themed merch at Maker House Co.</li><li>Oyster nights at The Elmdale Tavern.</li><li>Community events like Wickedly Westboro and Taste of Wellington that bring neighbours and local businesses together.</li><li>Lunch at Glen’s chip truck, because sometimes a poutine is exactly what the day calls for.</li><li>Brunch at Chesterfield's Gastro Diner, where there’s always a lineup for a reason.</li><li>A local Lululemon, which is where my unofficial Kitchissippi uniform of blazers and pants comes from.&nbsp;</li><li>Volunteering and supporting neighbours through local food bank drives and community initiatives.</li><li>Slowing down with a yoga class at Pure Yoga Ottawa.</li><li>Saturday bingo and a treat at Batter Up Bakery.</li><li>The endless programs and classes you can try at Hintonburg Community Centre (my wife and I had fun trying ballroom dancing).&nbsp;</li><li>Haircuts at Legends of the Trade barbership, especially because Devin is the only barber our son trusts.</li><li>Breakfast at Mo's Newport Restaurant.</li><li>Friday night pizza and movie nights with takeout from the House of Pizza.</li><li>Oktoberfest celebrations at our local Royal Canadian Legion hall.</li><li>The walkability of our neighbourhoods and being able to get almost anywhere on foot or by bike.</li><li>Summer days spent at Westboro Beach.</li><li>The Hintonburg 5K and seeing neighbours cheer each other on year after year.</li><li>Finding the perfect kids’ gifts at Hintonburg Kids (with gift wrapping included) and Kazka Toys.&nbsp;</li><li>Easy access to everything you need for outdoor adventures thanks to MEC and Bushtukah.</li><li>A bowl of pho from Pho Van Van, especially when someone in the family is feeling under the weather.</li><li>Outstanding local schools and community traditions like the Elmdale Public School book fair and festival.</li><li>The dependable service at the Island Park gas station, especially when they’re still pumping gas in the middle of an Ottawa winter.</li><li>Friendly neighbours who stop to chat, lend a hand, and genuinely care about the community.</li></ol>

Growth should strengthen our neighbourhoods, not overwhelm them. Growth is important, but it must fit within the character and needs of our neighbourhoods. I support development that addresses concerns such as parking impacts, tree loss, and compliance with existing rules. We need to ensure trees and green spaces are protected during development projects.

Growing communities need growing recreation opportunities. As Kitchissippi continues to grow, our recreation infrastructure needs to grow with it. Demand for programs and services is already exceeding capacity, with many residents facing long waitlists. I support a new recreation and wellness centre in the Tunney's Pasture/Bayview area that will provide more opportunities for children, youth, families, and seniors to stay active, connected, and healthy.

At the doors, in parks, at local businesses, and on sidewalks, one issue keeps coming up over and over again: transit.People are frustrated. And honestly, they have every reason to be.In the first quarter of 2026 alone, OC Transpo reported a $7.2 million deficit, largely driven by declining ridership and lower-than-expected fare revenue. At the same time, residents here in Kitchissippi experienced more than 1,000 cancelled bus trips in January.Think about what that actually means.That’s a thousand buses that didn’t show up to take people to work. To school. To medical appointments. To childcare pickups. To see family and friends.Transit isn’t just about moving people around the city. For many residents, it’s how they live their lives.Kitchissippi is a transit-oriented ward. We have two major LRT stations serving our communities, and many residents rely on public transit every single day. But if buses and trains are unreliable, people will stop using them. And that’s exactly what we’re seeing happen.If we want better transit, we need more ridership. And if we want more ridership, we need to make transit easier, more reliable, and more affordable.One of the biggest frustrations I hear about is the technology.The current OC Transpo app simply isn’t good enough. Real-time tracking is inconsistent, the map feature is difficult to use, and too often people are left standing outside wondering whether their bus is actually coming.That uncertainty matters.It’s one thing for a bus to be delayed or cancelled. It’s another thing entirely to be standing outside in -40 degree weather with no idea where your bus is or when it might arrive.We can do better.When I lived in Sweden in 2008, transit apps already showed the real-time location of buses. You could actually see where your bus was and plan your trip properly. That removed the guessing game entirely.If cities were doing this nearly two decades ago, Ottawa should be able to deliver that level of service today.We also need to rethink how we charge for transit.Right now, many short trips cost almost as much as long commutes. That discourages people from using transit for quick urban travel within communities like Kitchissippi.Many cities across Canada and around the world use distance-based fares, where people pay based on how far they travel. I believe Ottawa should seriously explore a similar model.My proposal would create transit zones where shorter trips cost less. The less distance you travel, the less you pay.Importantly, this would not mean increasing fares for residents traveling longer distances. Instead, it would create lower-cost options for shorter urban trips and encourage more people to choose transit over driving.Take a simple example.On a weekday, a Kitchissippi family of four with two adults, one twelve-year-old and one five-year-old would pay $10.25 for a one-way trip to the Rideau Centre on OC Transpo using Presto fares. Add in a return trip a few hours later beyond the 90-minute transfer window, and suddenly that short trip costs $20.50.At that point, many families understandably decide it’s easier and cheaper to drive.That’s a problem.We should be encouraging transit use, especially for short trips within the urban core. Lower fares for shorter distances would help increase ridership, reduce traffic congestion, and get more cars off the road. Any initial loss in fare revenue could be offset by bringing more riders back into the system.Transit should work for residents.It should be reliable. It should be affordable. And it should make life easier, not harder.Kitchissippi deserves its fair share when it comes to transit investment and service reliability. As your councillor, I’ll continue pushing for practical solutions that improve the everyday lives of residents.Let’s get transit moving again in Kitchissippi.

Transit should be fair, reliable, and predictable. Residents deserve a transit system they can count on. I support distance-based transit fares that better reflect how people use the system and provide greater fairness for riders. I also support improved real-time tracking and service reporting so riders have accurate information about delays, cancellations, and arrival times.
