My name is Subhir Uppal, and I’m running for City Council because Kitchissippi deserves a strong voice at City Hall that brings fresh ideas, listens to residents, works hard and delivers results
For more than 15 years, I have lived, worked, and built my business in Kitchissippi. From the Civic Hospital area to Hintonburg and now Westboro, this community has always been home. Today, it’s where my wife, Stephanie, and I are raising our five-year-old son, Brahm.
Hard work has always been part of my story
I was born to immigrant parents who came to Canada in search of a better life. They taught me the value of hard work, honesty, and giving back, not just through their words, but through how they lived.
Growing up, I spent countless hours behind the counter of my parents’ corner stores. I learned early that serving a community means showing up, listening to people and earning their trust one conversation at a time.
Those lessons have stayed with me throughout my life.
Experience that gets results
I built my career as an entrepreneur, small business owner, and community builder, eventually building my own company and being recognized as Entrepreneur of the Year in 2024.
Running a business taught me how to manage budgets, solve problems, make difficult decisions and be accountable for the results. You can’t simply talk about what should be done. You have to find a way to get it done.
I’ve also made ethics and accountability a central part of my professional life. I serve as an ethics instructor with the nationally recognized Real Estate Institute of Canada, as a director with the Ottawa Real Estate Board, and as vice chair of the Real Estate Council of Ontario.
I hold a Bachelor of Commerce and an Executive MBA from the University of Ottawa, giving me a strong foundation in business, leadership and how organizations can work better.
Community comes first
Giving back has always mattered to me.
I served two terms on the Board of Directors of the Vanier Business Improvement Area and volunteer as a youth mentor with Junior Achievement Canada. I’ve also worked to make our communities safer by leading a Neighbourhood Watch program and serving as a director with the Ottawa Safety Council.
These experiences have given me the opportunity to work with businesses, community organizations, young people and residents from across Ottawa. They’ve also reinforced something I strongly believe: good leadership starts with listening.
Why I’m running
Ottawa gave my family opportunity, and Kitchissippi gave me a place to build a business, a home and a family. I want to give back to the community that has given me so much.
I’m not a career politician. I’m a neighbour, a dad, a small business owner, an entrepreneur and a community volunteer who believes City Hall can work better for the people it serves.
I’ll bring the same approach to City Hall that I’ve brought to my business and community work: listen carefully, work hard, spend responsibly, act with integrity and be accountable for the results.
That’s the kind of councillor I want to be for Kitchissippi.
Between now and Election Day, I’ll keep showing up, listening and working hard to earn your trust and your vote.
On October 26, I hope I can count on your support.
My Values
Hard work
I believe in showing up, rolling up my sleeves and getting the job done. Whether I’m building a business, volunteering in the community or knocking on doors, I’ve never been afraid of hard work. I’ll bring that same energy, determination and work ethic to fighting for Kitchissippi and delivering results at City Hall.
Community
Community is personal to me. Years ago, when my home was damaged by fire, neighbours and friends rallied around me when I needed them most. I’ve never forgotten that. It taught me the importance of showing up for one another, and why I’ll always be ready to step up when my community needs me.
Transparency
I pride myself on being an open book. No secrets, no hidden agendas. I believe residents deserve the same from their elected officials. I’ll be open about the decisions I make, accountable for how your tax dollars are spent and accessible to the people I represent. That commitment won’t end on Election Day.
Ethics
Integrity has been a defining part of my professional life. I’m an ethics instructor with the Real Estate Institute of Canada and am often invited to speak on ethics panels. I’ve also been trusted to serve on the boards of several organizations. I’ll bring those same high standards of integrity and accountability to City Hall.
